The Varilux brand
The Varilux brand was the dream of an exceptional man, Bernard Maitenaz.
In the 1950s, when trying on his father’s flattop bifocals, Bernard Maitenaz decided that the concept requires some rethinking.
At first, no one believed in his concept, but he persevered and revolutionized the ophthalmic optics market by inventing the world first progressive lens in 1959. His spirit of innovation continues to inspire Varilux to this day.
