Harnessing the power of technology

to reduce our carbon footprint

With Singapore’s trend and vision towards a car-lite Singapore, see how Bolloré Group subsidiary, BlueSG Pte Ltd comes into play to help Singapore achieve this vision

Blue SG cars

For a small and densely populated country such as Singapore, pollution from vehicles can have an especially adverse impact on the quality of our living environment and our health. The need to reduce our carbon footprint becomes more obvious every day, and the future landscape of transport in Singapore is set to look different from today. Owning a car will be less of a want as public transports become more accessible and well connected.

In line with this trend, Singapore is launching an electric vehicle (EV) car-sharing program in collaboration with Bolloré Group by mid-2017. EVs will be deployed in every single Housing & Development Board (HDB) town by 2020, to allow as many residents as possible to enjoy car-sharing facilities.

BlueSG Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Bolloré Group signed the agreement on 30 June 2016 with Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Economic Development Board (EDB) to operate BlueSG, a nationwide car-sharing program with a fleet of 1,000 EVs. Under the agreement, BlueSG Pte Ltd will operate the programme for ten years and install an island-wide EV charging infrastructure of 2,000 charging points, of which up to 20% will be available for public use. These charging points will form the foundation for Singapore’s future EV charging infrastructure to support the use of EVs in Singapore.

The program will be rolled out progressively across Singapore, with the first batch of 125 Bluecars and 250 charging points introduced in HDB towns such as Ang Mo Kio, Jurong East and Punggol by mid-2017.

Bolloré Logistics, the freight forwarding and logistics branch of Bolloré Group, also shows its commitment to design cleaner and innovative supply chain solutions through a concrete and visible action with its SAVE PROGRAM.  For the last mile delivery, low emitting transport mode such as hybrid or electric represents new development perspectives aiming at reducing the environmental footprint of shipments in city centers.

Bolloré Logistics’ team in Singapore has explored this opportunity to support the environmental policy of one of its key accounts in the region. In April 2015, Bolloré Logistics introduced the very first hybrid delivery shuttle serving iconic retail stores in the city-state.

Powered by highly efficient diesel and electric motors, the hybrid vehicle reduces fuel consumption and harmful atmospheric emissions such as CO₂ and suspended particles up to 30%, helping to improve air quality.

This local initiative is in complete accordance with the group’s strategic orientations to develop sustainable and durable logistics solutions, in an effort to address current climate challenges. It anticipates future actions on behalf of our clients to evaluate and support the impact of air pollutants such as fine particles and NOx produced by the supply chain in urban centers.

Harnessing the power of technology, going car-lite and using green-transport vehicle paves the way to reduce pollution and gear Singapore towards a healthier living environment.
